Camping in a Garden

It has been a long time since I slept in a tent, but when the opportunity came up again, I didn't hesitate to jump into it. I have quite a bit of experience in sleeping in tents during various seasons, due to my teenage years spent in scout camps, but this time it was a little different. We slept at a friend's garden! The technology wasn't so far away, but I'm glad that we were quite distant enough from the city lights that we could even see the milky way, and lots of stars without saying. I'm hoping for another camping experience soon!

"This earth will grow cold,
a star among stars
             and one of the smallest,
a gilded mote on blue velvet--
I mean this, our great earth.
This earth will grow cold one day,
not like a block of ice
or a dead cloud even
but like an empty walnut it will roll along
        in pitch-black space...
You must grieve for this right now
--you have to feel this sorrow now--
for the world must be loved this much
if you're going to say "I lived"..."

After Lake

After our lake outing, we've chilled out at a friend's house. I adored the view from his window which looks to a fortress on the hill. It would be such a joy to sip your tea looking at that view (hmm..time for me to live in a more airy and scenic house I suppose). It was rainy outside, so we profited staying indoor by playing cards and watching some Top Gear episodes (I'd never seen it before, now I'm looking forward to watch another episode, do you know it?)

"Alone, their fragments shored against the ruin or revelation
that was sure to come, breathing in their secret atmosphere,
repeating them until they almost seemed my own.
We like to think our lives are what they study to become,
and yet so much of life is waiting, waiting on a whim.
So much of what we are is sheer coincidence,
like a sentence whose significance is retrospective,
made up out of elementary particles that are in some sense
simply sounds, like syllables that finally settle into place."
